line ‘em up

and knock ‘em down

Stripes have long been a regular character in the wardrobes of men everywhere because of their blend of bold pattern and ability to blend right in. Most commonly the stripes men find in their closet are either horizontal (think nautical) or of a very subtle scale. This season think big, bold and brazen. Stripes are coming at you vertically and in a scale that is oversized or in strong contrasts like black and white or in multi-color (see the etro option below). Here’s how you make it work. Let the stripes do the talking. Don’t cover it up or blend it in with blazers and sweaters. Wear the shirts be them button ups or tees with neutral trousers or complimenting earth tones. Bright blue stripes? Rock a pair of navy or medium grey shorts. Roll up your sleeves or wear them open over a plain tee and walk the lines like you’ve been doing it all your life. See below for some of my picks.

$27 at Asos. I would roll up the sleeve even further and wear this with a pair of slim dark navy chinos.

$147 from Vivienne Westwood. It’s like a tuxedo polo. I would rock with black slacks and polished black loafers. Get some oversized black sunnies and this look is super chic – lagerfeld goes to college.

$54 at Urban Outfitters. I would make this one really do the work. Put a kelly green crew neck underneath and wear it open with some medium tone khakis.

$212 by Etro. This is all out people. Do it. That’s all I can say.

$125 from Ralph Lauren. The classic. You can wear this with anything. Dress it down with some slim cargo shorts or tuck it in to some black slacks and take the night by storm.
